SUE BROOKS

Picture
TOWN BLOSSOM | Collage | 52 x 38cm
SUE BROOKS does not remember ever being unaware of paintings or painters. Her mother worked in a gallery that was a hub for the art world in London in the fifties so the talk at home was high art gossip which sounded very exotic to her as a child.
She first wanted to paint when she was about fourteen. She was upstairs on a bus going past Hyde Park. It was winter and foggy but the shapes of the trees could be clearly seen, all greys, a little pink, some browns and a flat pale green. Wonderful.
Coming to Plymouth in her early twenties she studied as a mature student doing a foundation course at the Plymouth College of Art and, later, a degree course at Exeter.
She has been a member of the Plymouth Society of Artists since the late seventies and exhibits locally on a regular basis.
