ROBERT MOUNTJOY

Picture
WATERLINES 31/32 | Acrylic on prepared boards |
Diptych 39 x 78cm
ROBERT MOUNTJOY was born in Bideford, Devon in 1950. He trained as a teacher in Cheltenham and read for a degree at Bristol and later taught in Plymouth for 25 years.
His work develops from observational drawing. He does quick sketches - brief notes 'in the field' - which are completed in his studio before reworking and enlarging. The process allows him to confront and then re-engage with the subject, deepen his understanding and consider a response. Seeking out the key elements of the issue, he orders and presents them through an image or a set of images. Projects often conclude in series of paintings in acrylic, on paper or prepared boards.
