NICKY WALKER completed a Foundation Course at PCAD followed by a degree in Fine Art at Falmouth School of Art. She studied painting under Ray Atkins, Stuart Knowles, Mary Mabbutt and printmaking with John Utting, amongst others.
Inspiration is drawn from living on Dartmoor for many years and the coastline around South East Cornwall and the Scillies. I find I work best when I am on the spot, in front of what I am painting. Something catches my eye ... the morning light across the fields, the shape of a shadow, the colour of a tree or the glistening sea. A fleeting moment snatched ... there is generally a struggle to get it all down quickly before it disappears. I work in gouache outside and return to the studio to work it up in oil ... adding and removing the marks on the canvas until I feel a sense of place emerge ... that's all it is really ... just a feeling. www.nickywalker.org.uk |
