DOROTHY HANNA Born in Ireland, she has a BA (Hons) from Belfast College of Art. Always a painter, she began exploring printmaking around 2010 and it quickly became her artistic practice.
She most often makes monotypes which are individual, unique prints rather than parts of an edition. She works in layers by applying the ink onto the printing plate before it goes through the press where the ink is transferred to the paper. Each print may go through the press many times as she responds to the marks she makes and to the play between control and spontaneity while working towards the completed image. Sometimes the most exciting element is when the unexpected occurs during the printing process and she needs to find ways to incorporate those developments into the work. www.dorothyhanna.co.uk |
