Colin George was elected a member of the Society in 1992. He served as Secretary from 1999 to 2006 and Chairman from 2009 to 2015. During this time he instigated and was administrator for the South West Open held in Plymouth City Art Gallery.
He has shown locally and nationally, in Scotland and Wales, as well as being represented in five New York Art Fairs and a British Council Exhibition in Vienna. George thinks of his paintings as lyrical abstractions of the natural beauty that surrounds us. They are arrived at by intuitive, improvisational methods and try to show something of the quiet mystery which often accompanies such beauty. Line, shape, texture and gentle colour are used to make visual statements that are distilled to an essence. The titles are merely signposts to the paintings' origins. He expects the images to be taken from him and translated into the language of the recipient's imagination. |
