BIDDY WALKE Ideas for her sculptures begin with rough sketches of natural objects - leaves, rock pools, worn old trees, sea shells, figure drawings - and are then developed through making small clay maquettes until a form is reached which seems to distill some aspect of the original thing. Sometimes a previous piece is further abstracted.
This form is then translated into either wood or stone - these are both natural materials which, in the process of chiselling and refining, reveal their remarkable hidden qualities. The journey of 'making' is an integral part of the finished piece. Her work also includes printmaking which has been shown since 1988 in Cornwall, Devon, London and Brittany. She is also a member of the Gwynngala group of artists/makers. artofgwynngala.co.uk |
