ALAN BOURNE

Picture
 LONG BARROW | Acrylic on paper | 40 x 40cm.
ALAN BOURNE was born and grew up in Surrey. He studied both art and music in his early years but later attended the Guildhall School of Music full-time. For the next 30 years he worked as an orchestral musician and teacher. However, he continued to paint throughout this time and for the past 20 years he has pursued an artistic career. He has exhibited widely in the South West and is currently a member of the South West Academy. In 2012 he was first prize winner of the  Academy  Lionel Aggett  award.
His paintings mostly relate to landscape and still life but also reflect a response to music. The work is rarely executed directly but developed later in the studio using photographs and sketches, and where colour is used to reflect the essence and feeling experienced at a given moment of time.
